The legend that was Pete Bartlett, just demonstrated how to light a Benghazi burner to keep warm, September in BAOR was pretty cold. This was the exercise the year before Lionheart and there was a great deal of hanging about waiting for the next staged scenario. We were the enemy so things weren't quite as fluid as they could have been. I have the SMG and Pete Bartlett is on my right. 10 minutes after he lit the petrol 4 fire engines arrived together with several police cars...... Pete hadn't realised we were sitting right underneath the main Autobahn! It took a great deal of explaining but we slid off and hid with the radio operator in the CP white the OC was looking for scapegoat! Officer do have to do some really tough stuff!
